About Australian Cockroaches

Australian Cockroaches can be found in FL This large cockroach closely resembles the American cockroach. The key characteristics are the yellow stripes on the outer edge of the front wings just behind the shield. The Australian cockroach is a pest of homes along the Gulf Coast from central Florida to eastern Texas, but especially in parts of Florida. This cockroach is a ready flier and travels easily from trees onto houses. It is commonly attracted to homes to feed on improperly maintained trash containers and pet food on patios and decks. Once by the house, these insects may then enter.

Australian Cockroaches Habitat

The Australian cockroach usually invades the attic or crawl space, where it finds conditions similar to that found within a tree hole (its natural habitat). Once populations grow large inside these sites, the cockroaches regularly venture down into the home. The occasional cockroach may wander into a home from harborage outside, but chronic infestations are most always associated with attic or crawl space populations.

Australian Cockroaches Threats

Just like other cockroaches, Australian cockroaches are a health treat. They carry germs, bacteria, and are linked with allergies and asthma. They are potentially harmful to young children and those who have impaired immune systems such as people who are ill, or elderly people. Recent research has associated cockroaches and allergies, including asthma, which can be life threatening. Medical reports indicate that up to 60% of asthmatics have allergic reactions to cockroaches, which are second only to house dust mites in an ability to trigger allergies.

Australian Cockroaches Treatment and Pest Control

Treating and preventing an Australian Cockroaches infestation has two components. First, please make sure there are no places in or around the structure that Australian Cockroaches would consider as the perfect place for them to lice. Get rid of trash, clean your kitchen appliances, vacuum regularly, fix leaky drains etc. Also eliminate any entrance point into your structure.

Second, your pest control company should use a specific pest control plan targeting Australian Cockroaches specifically, which includes applying a liquid to the perimeter of the structure, and baits.
